Recently, an Indian grey wolf gave birth to eight pups in Karnataka’s Bankapur Wolf Sanctuary

It is a subspecies of grey wolf that ranges from Southwest Asia to the Indian Subcontinent.
It travels in smaller packs and is less vocal than other variants.
They are nocturnal and hunt from dusk to dawn.
It is intermediate in size lies between the Tibetan and Arabian wolf, and lacks the former’s luxuriant winter coat due to its living in warmer conditions.
The Indian wolf inhabits areas dominated by scrub, grasslands and semi-arid pastoral agro-ecosystems. They live in warmer conditions.

This species population is getting impacted by Habitat loss and depletion of prey species etc.
Bankapur Wolf Sanctuary
Karnataka’s first Wolf Sanctuary
It is now India’s second protected area dedicated exclusively to wolf after the Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary established in erstwhile undivided Bihar in 1976 (today in Jharkhand).
It is made up of scrub forests, hills and natural caves.
The sanctuary is home to many wildlife species, including wolves, leopards, peacocks, blackbucks, foxes, hares, and porcupines.
