The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) facilitated the operationalization of 10 payloads from non-government entities (NGEs) on the POEM-4 module of the PSLV-C60/SpaDeX mission.
Launched by ISRO, the mission carried out scientific experiments at an altitude of 350 km using the POEM-4, which utilized the spent PS4 stage.
The PSLV-C60 mission deployed 24 PS4-Orbital Experiment Module payloads for various scientific and technological purposes.
POEM
PS4-Orbital Experiment Module (POEM)
Utilizes the spent fourth stage (PS4) of the PSLV rocket.
Provides a platform for conducting microgravity experiments in space for up to three months.
Serves as a valuable resource for scientific experiments that would otherwise be wasted as space debris.
Purpose of POEM:
Enables validation of proof-of-concept and enabling technologies for future space missions.
Helps in testing experimental payloads that support advanced space research.
PSLV-C60 SpaDeX Mission (POEM-4):
This is the fourth mission in the POEM series (POEM-4).
Carries a total of 24 payloads, a significant increase from POEM-3, which hosted only eight.
Payload Distribution:
14 payloads from ISRO/DOS centres.
10 payloads from Non-Government Entities (NGEs) like academic institutions and start-ups, facilitated by IN-SPACe.
Importance:
The mission marks a three-fold increase in capacity compared to previous POEM missions, fostering greater participation from India's private and academic sectors in space research.
