A survey on time use conducted by the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
The survey covered 1,39,487 households (83,247 rural and 56,240 urban) and 4,54,192 individuals aged 6 and above.
In 2024, 75% of men and 25% of women in the 15-59 age group participated in employment-related activities, up from 70.9% and 21.8% in 2019.
Time spent by women on unpaid domestic services dropped from 315 minutes in 2019 to 305 minutes in 2024, indicating a shift towards paid activities.
People involved in employment spent 440 minutes daily on average. Men spent 473 minutes, while women spent 341 minutes.
Men spent 88 minutes on unpaid domestic services, while women spent 137 minutes on household care.
On average, people spent 171 minutes daily on culture, leisure, and media. Men spent 177 minutes, and women spent 164 minutes.
Children aged 6-14 spent 413 minutes a day on learning-related activities.
Self-care activities accounted for 708 minutes a day for people aged 6 and above.
41% of women aged 15-59 participated in caregiving, spending 140 minutes daily, compared to 21.4% of men who spent 74 minutes on similar activities.
16.8% of the population engaged in producing goods for their own use, spending 116 minutes daily on such activities.
