Belgium’s John Cockerill Defence (JCD) and Pune-based Electro Pneumatics & Hydraulics (EPH) announced a joint venture in India, focusing initially on the Indian Army's light tank contest.
They had previously collaborated to supply turrets for the Zorawar light tank, developed by DRDO and L&T, which is in advanced trials.
The light tank is a critical requirement for the Indian Army, identified during the India-China stand-off in Ladakh.
The JV will be a 60:40 partnership, with JCD providing technology and EPH handling manufacturing.
The initial focus is on the Indian light tank, with potential to produce up to 700 tanks. However, the JV’s scope is broader, including other defence programs in India.
JCD brings top-tier turret technology, while India’s strength in electronics and AI will enhance system efficiency.
