Why in news
Madhav National Park in Madhya Pradesh has been declared India's 58th tiger reserve.
It is the 9th tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh.
The reserve is located in the Shivpuri district in the Chambal region.
The park currently has a population of five tigers, including two cubs born recently.
Three tigers (including two females) were introduced to the park in 2023 as part of a reintroduction project.
Madhav National Park
Madhav National Park is a part of the Upper Vindhya Hills located in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh .
This park was the hunting ground of the Mughal emperors and the Maharajas of Gwalior.
It got the status of a national park in the year 1959.
The area is blessed with diverse ecosystems, including lakes, dry deciduous forests and thorn forests.
It is home to tiger, leopard, nilgai, chinkara, chowsingha and various kinds of deer.
The park falls within one of the 32 major tiger corridors in the country, which are managed through the Tiger Conservation Plan.
The Tiger Conservation Plan is implemented under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 .
The drainage pattern is towards north and northeast in the northern area of the park forming the catchment of Amarnadi.
The park area forms a catchment of the Sind river which flows along the eastern boundary of the park.
Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Sagar are the two lakes in the southern part of the park
