China increased tariffs on U.S. imports to 125%, in response to U.S. tariffs of 145% on Chinese goods.
China criticized the U.S. tariffs, saying they make no economic sense and could become a joke in world economic history.
China stated that at the current tariff levels, the Chinese market can't absorb U.S. imports anymore.
If the U.S. imposes more tariffs, China will ignore them, as they see no point in reacting further.
However, if the U.S. takes actions that seriously harm China's interests, China warned it will take strong countermeasures.
The U.S. had recently raised its own tariffs on Chinese goods, which now total 145%, including a 20% hike by Trump earlier in the year.
Despite the tension, China is still open to dialogue, but urged the U.S. to stop its pressure tactics and aggressive actions.
