PM Narendra Modi and U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance met in Delhi to review progress on the India-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
They officially finalized the Terms of Reference for negotiations, with more talks scheduled in Washington this week.
The expected launch of the TRUST Technology Partnership did not take place.
Mr. Modi expressed anticipation for U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to India later this year during the Quad Summit.
The BTA aims to benefit workers, farmers, and entrepreneurs in both countries by enhancing trade and supply chains.
Talks have not yet resolved issues like U.S. tariffs, visa restrictions, agricultural market access, and India’s digital taxes.
The agreement is expected to include reduced or zero tariffs in some sectors, forming part of an initial trade deal.
The two sides discussed aligning Mr. Trump’s “Make America Great Again (MAGA)” and India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” visions for national development.
Regional and global issues were discussed, though no specifics were given on Ukraine or Gaza.
