The India-U.K. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will take at least a year to come into effect.
The legal vetting of the agreement will take three more months, after which it will be scrutinized in the U.K.
The U.K. Trade and Agriculture Commission (TAC) will review the agreement for consistency with U.K. regulations on animal health, welfare, and the environment.
After the TAC report, the U.K. government will prepare its own report, and only then can the FTA be presented to the U.K. Parliament for ratification.
The Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will also take until September-October 2025 due to Swiss regulations requiring public comment.
