Key Highlights from the News
Kaziranga Tiger Reserve (KTR) in Assam has reached the third position in tiger density in India, according to a new report.
Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka and Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand hold the first and second positions, respectively.
The Assam government released this report on July 29, 2025, in conjunction with Global Tiger Day.
As of 2024, Kaziranga has 148 tigers. The primary reason for the increase in numbers is the first-ever census conducted in the Biswanath Wildlife Division, which is part of Kaziranga.
The survey was conducted using camera traps, in accordance with the protocol of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
This finding proves that Kaziranga, famous for its one-horned rhinoceroses, is also an important habitat for tigers.
