It was found on the eastern Caribbean island of Barbados.
The discovery was made by the conservation group Re:wild and the Ministry of Environment in Barbados.

Its scientific name is Tetracheilostoma carlae.
It is blind and lives in burrows in the soil. It feeds on termites and ants.
When fully grown, it only reaches about 10 centimeters in length, small enough to fit on a coin.
