The Indian Navy received a new advanced guided-missile frigate named Himgiri.
It was built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), based in Kolkata.
This is the third ship of the Nilgiri Class. These class of ships are being built as part of Project 17A.
It is seen as a significant milestone in achieving India's self-reliance in the design and construction of warships.
It was designed by the Navy's own Warship Design Bureau.
The name is given in memory of the old INS Himgiri, a Leander-class frigate, which was decommissioned in 2025.
