In Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Assam, a new project named Bodoland Pig Mission has been launched to promote pig farming and develop it into a large-scale industry.
The project aims to transform the region into a hub of quality pig production.
This project is being implemented in collaboration with institutions from the Netherlands and Denmark (International Collaboration).
As part of the project, high-yielding Large White Yorkshire, a British pig breed, is being imported from the Netherlands.
A biosecure nuclear breeding farm with high biosecurity is being established in Baksa district.
By improving traditional pig farming methods using scientific inputs, the project aims to increase farmers' income and strengthen the rural economy.
