Registrar-General of India (RGI), released the Civil Registration System (CRS) report for 2023.
Key Findings of the Report:
The number of registered births in 2023 is 2.52 crore, a slight decrease compared to 2022.
There is no significant increase in the number of deaths in 2023 (86.6 lakh). However, 21 lakh excess deaths were recorded in 2021 (the second year of COVID).
Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) is lowest in Jharkhand (899), followed by Bihar (900).
The highest SRB is in Arunachal Pradesh (1085). Kerala's SRB is 967.
74.7% of registered births are institutional births, indicating progress in maternal and child health.
Accurate birth and death registration is essential for the country's socio-economic planning and evaluation of public health programs.
