Key Highlights from the News
Several European countries, including Spain, Ireland, and Norway, have officially recognized the state of Palestine. This marks a significant shift in Europe's foreign policy.
There are three main reasons behind this diplomatic shift:
War in Gaza: The intensity of Israel's military actions and the Israeli government's rejection of the two-state solution concept.
Ukraine War: While strongly supporting Ukraine's sovereignty, Europe's inaction regarding the decades-long Palestinian occupation exposed its "hypocrisy."
Domestic political pressure: Shifting public opinion in Europe in favor of Palestine and strong protests.
Countries like Germany and Austria, due to historical reasons, support Israel, meaning the European Union does not have a unified stance on this issue. Therefore, each country is making decisions individually.
Although this recognition is a symbolic shift, it indicates the growing unease among a large section of European countries about the disappearance of the two-state solution concept.
