Heat wave
- A heat wave - a period of abnormally high temperatures that exceed the normal maximum temperature.
- Typically between March and June, and in some rare cases even extend to July.
- Heat wave is considered when the maximum temperature of a station reaches least 40°C for Plains and 30°C for Hilly regions.
- If a station's normal maximum temperature is more than 40°C, a 4°C to 5°C increase from that temperature is considered a heat wave condition.
The health impacts of Heat Waves
- Dehydration
- Heat cramps
- Heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke.
- Heat cramps
- Fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps and sweating.
- The extreme temperatures can result physiological stress, sometimes it leads to death.
