The wild population in north America is thought to consist of fewer that 2500 tortoise, the threats to the animals are mounting as they are hunted food and captured as pets.
Bolson Tortoise
Scientific name - Gopherus flavomarginatus.
Also know as - Mexican giant tortoise or yellow-margined tortoise
Its a species of tortoise from North America.
Of the six North American tortoise species, it is the largest, having a carapace length of about 46 cm.
Its major habitat is at the Chihuahuan Desert , central Mexico.
Lives in the elevation between 1500m and 1000m and as high as 2000m near volcanic slopes.
Semi-hot desert climate around 2.8°C and 36.3°C.
Biologists have said it could span upward of a century.
Conservation Status
IUCN -"Vulnerable.“
