 Free and Fair elections Index 

• This index measures the quality of elections in a country.

• Its based on a number of factors, including the transparency of elections, the participation of voters, and the fairness of the electoral process.

• The index ranges from 0 to 1.

• 1 being the most free and fair. 

• In 2022, the average score for all countries was 0.49. 

• The top ten countries, according to the index, were:

1. Denmark (0.97)

2. Sweden (0.96)

3. Finland (0.95)

4. Uruguay (0.94)

5. Costa Rica (0.93)

6. Netherlands (0.92)

7. Ireland (0.91)

8. Chile (0.91)

9. Norway (0.90)

10. Taiwan (0.89)

The index is a useful tool for understanding the quality of elections around the world.

• The Free and fair Index (EDI) by V-Dem Institute.

• India's rank in the 2023 EDI is 108th, 

• India has a score of 0.52. 

• This indicates a moderately free and fair electoral process with some concerns.
