UCCN
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.
There are 350 cities around the world which currently make up this network work together
Common objective: placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans at the local level and cooperating actively at the international level.
UCCN covers seven creative fields:
Crafts and Folk Arts,
Media Arts,
Film,
Design,
Gastronomy,
Literature, and
Music
Kozhikode became part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) as the city was awarded the title of “City of Literature” (first Indian city to be designated) at the 16th annual conference of the network that began in Portugal
Gwalior, awarded the “City of Music” title
Earlier addition
Chennai and Varanasi – UNESCO Cities of music;
Jaipur and Srinagar- UNESCO city of crafts and folk arts;
Mumbai – UNESCO city of film; and
Hyderabad – UNESCO City of gastronomy
