Why in news
Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Transport and Highways, hailed the completion of the 2.35-km Banihal bypass in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district as a key milestone for national security and tourism.
The bypass, costing ₹224.44 crore, is located on National Highway 44, which connects the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country.
The bypass begins at Kharpora and concludes near the Navayuga Tunnel, avoiding the busy Banihal town.
