What did the ILO state?
IMs made up 4.7% of the global labor force (167.7 million) in 2022, with a 30 million increase since 2013.
155.6 million IMs were employed, while 12.1 million were unemployed.
IM male employment share was 4.7%, while female IMs had a slightly lower share of 4.4%.
What about age and gender?
61.3% of IM men were employed, compared to 38.7% of female IMs.
Women IMs have steadily increased in number.
Prime-age adults (25-54 years) represented 74.9% of IM workers, with fewer workers under 25.
Which economic sectors attract IMs?
68.4% of IMs worked in services, with women dominating this sector (80.7%).
IMs made up 24.3% of the industry workforce, and only 7.4% worked in agriculture.
Which are the main host countries?
High-income countries hosted 68.4% of IMs, especially in services like care.
Upper-middle-income countries received 17.4%.
Northern America and Europe were key regions, with slight shifts in shares between 2013-2022.
