Nine Indo-Pacific countries, including India, are participating in the La Perouse naval exercise hosted by France from January 16 to 24.
The exercise takes place in the strategic Malacca, Sunda, and Lombok straits, key chokepoints between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
The Indian Navy has deployed its guided-missile destroyer INS Mumbai for the exercise.
The exercise is led by the French Carrier Strike Group, headed by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
Participating countries: Australia, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the UK, and the US.
The exercise will use the IORIS system for better communication and coordination during crises.
Key risks addressed: illegal activities, environmental hazards, natural risks like earthquakes and tsunamis.
