Why in news
Vice-President Dhankhar questioned the legal reasoning for involving the Chief Justice of India (CJI) in selecting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director.
He criticized the involvement of the judiciary in executive functions, calling it a "Constitutional paradox" that the largest democracy cannot afford.
Dhankhar emphasized that the judiciary's role should primarily be through judgments and public statements outside of this could harm institutional dignity.
He expressed concerns about the strength of Constitutional Benches in the Supreme Court and cautioned against any overreach in interpreting the Constitution.
