Union government has restructured its skilling initiatives, merging 3 schemes into the Skill India Programme
The Cabinet approved ₹8,800 crore for the Skill India Programme for the next three years (2023-2026).
The three merged schemes are:
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0),
Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS),
Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme.
The goal is to provide skill development, on-the-job training, and community-based learning for both urban and rural populations, including marginalized communities.
Over 2.27 crore people have benefited from these schemes so far.
The programme will align workforce development with economic and industrial trends, contributing to the Periodic Labour Force Survey data.
