Opposition member Jairam Ramesh brought up a news report alleging "huge cash" was found at a Delhi High Court judge's residence during a fire.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed concern about the delayed reporting of the incident and emphasized the importance of judicial accountability.
Dhankhar referenced the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act, which Parliament passed to strengthen judicial accountability, but which was later struck down by the Supreme Court.
He highlighted that the NJAC Act was "signed by the Hon’ble President under Article 111 of the Constitution," underlining its parliamentary and presidential endorsement.
Dhankhar stated he would discuss with the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition to organize a structured discussion on judicial accountability.
He wished to know the current status of the NJAC act, and the parliaments effort to hold the judiciary accountable.
