U.S. President Donald Trump called tariffs imposed by India and other countries “very unfair,”
Trump announced that from April 2, the U.S. will impose reciprocal tariffs on countries that charge high levies on American goods.
Trump highlighted countries like the European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Canada, which charge significantly higher tariffs on U.S. products.
India was specifically mentioned for charging auto tariffs higher than 100%, which Trump considered unfair.
Under Trump’s administration, any country imposing high tariffs on U.S. goods would face similar retaliatory tariffs from the U.S.
Trump criticized the global tariff system, claiming that other countries have taken advantage of the U.S. for decades by charging higher tariffs.
Trump promised that if countries use non-monetary tariffs to block U.S. products, the U.S. would also implement non-monetary barriers to restrict their goods.
Trump has already imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports and a 10% tariff on Chinese imports.
In response, Canada imposed a 25% tariff on U.S. goods, and China announced additional tariffs on U.S. farm products.
Trump’s aim is to bring more jobs and wealth to the U.S. by reversing unfair tariff practices.
