Why in news
A glacier avalanche hit a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) project site in Mana village, Uttarakhand, trapping workers beneath the ice.
There were 57 civilian workers at the site, including construction workers, earth mover drivers, and machine operators. 22 workers are feared trapped.
Teams from the Indian Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) are working to rescue the workers.
Continuous snowfall in the area has halted rescue efforts multiple times, making the operation challenging.
Communication at the site is disrupted due to bad weather, but helpline numbers have been provided for the workers' families.
