Why in news
India’s External Affairs Ministry rejected a New York Times (NYT) report claiming HAL supplied items from a British company to Russia.
The Ministry said the report is factually incorrect and misleading, aimed at distorting facts.
HAL has followed all international rules on strategic trade and end-user commitments.
The NYT report alleged that Techtest (UK) sent restricted tech to HAL, which then sent matching parts to Russia’s Rosoboronexport.
The report did not confirm if the items actually reached Russia.
India’s defense trade with Russia continues due to its reliance on Russian military hardware, despite Western sanctions after the Ukraine war.
