The Indian Navy’s sailing vessel Tarini has started its final leg of global circumnavigation from Cape Town, South Africa, to Goa.
This journey is part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama-II initiative.
The voyage is being led by two women officers, Lt. Cdr. Dilna K. and Lt. Cdr. Roopa A.
The mission aims to promote ocean sailing in India.
It also highlights India’s indigenous shipbuilding skills and capabilities.
INSV Tarini
Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini is a 56 foot sailing vessel.
Built by: Aquarius Shipyard Ltd., Goa (under Make in India initiative)
It was inducted in the Indian Navy in February 2017.
It is fitted with advanced features such as satellite communication system, Raymarine navigation suite, emergency steering, and is capable of sailing in extreme conditions.
