ISRO successfully completed the second docking of two satellites, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), under the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission.
The first docking was done on January 16, 2025, and undocking on March 13, 2025.
SpaDeX aims to test key technologies needed for spacecraft to meet, dock, and separate in space.
This makes India the fourth country after the U.S., Russia, and China to perform such a docking experiment.
The technology is crucial for future missions like astronaut trips to the moon, bringing samples back from space, and building an Indian space station.
SpaDeX also tests power transfer between docked satellites, helpful for future in-space robotics and satellite operations.
More experiments are planned in the coming weeks to further test and refine these systems.
