The Border Security Force (BSF) has started arms training for Village Defence Guards (VDGs) along the Jammu-Pakistan border.
Civilians living in border villages are being trained as a “second line of defence” against terrorist infiltration and attacks.
This follows Operation Sindoor, aimed at strengthening border security in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the deployment of over 52,000 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel for the Amarnath Yatra starting July 3.
A total of 581 companies (90–100 personnel each) will be stationed for security during the pilgrimage, which ends on August 9.
This is the largest deployment for the Yatra in the last three years.
The Yatra route is near Baisaran in Pahalgam, where a terror attack on April 22 killed 26 civilians.
The VDG initiative was revived in 2022 after a 20-year gap due to renewed terrorist threats in Jammu.
In the past three years, over 22 civilians have been killed in targeted terror attacks in regions like Chenab Valley, Kathua-Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch.
