The government has notified rules under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023, effective from May 27.
These rules aim to improve command, control, and smooth functioning of Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs) and strengthen cooperation among the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The Act was passed in 2023 and came into force on May 10, 2024; ISOs were officially notified in December 2024.
The Act allows commanders of ISOs to manage and discipline service personnel under them without changing the unique service conditions of each military branch.
The new rules provide a clear framework for discipline, administration, and teamwork among the armed forces.
This is part of ongoing military reforms that began with creating the Chief of Defence Staff post in 2019 to improve coordination across the services.
