ചൈനയിലെ സിൻഹുവ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ (Tsinghua University) പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന 'Schwarzman Scholars' പ്രോഗ്രാം പോലെ ഒരെണ്ണം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഇല്ലാത്തത്, അമേരിക്കൻ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ മുൻഗണനകളിൽ ഇന്ത്യ ഇപ്പോഴും പിന്നിലാണെന്നതിന് തെളിവാണ്.
ഈ പ്രോഗ്രാം, റോഡ്‌സ് സ്കോളർഷിപ്പിന്റെ (Rhodes Scholarship) മാതൃകയിൽ, ചൈനയെക്കുറിച്ച് ആഴത്തിൽ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുതിയ തലമുറയെ വാർത്തെടുക്കാൻ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നു.

അമേരിക്കൻ സർവ്വകലാശാലകളിൽ China Studies-ന് വലിയ പിന്തുണ ലഭിക്കുമ്പോൾ, ഇന്ത്യയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പഠനങ്ങൾ (India-focused research) പലപ്പോഴും South Asian Studies-ന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ഒതുങ്ങുന്നു.
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം വർധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ പോലും, അമേരിക്കൻ ബൗദ്ധിക, ജീവകാരുണ്യ മേഖലകളിൽ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സ്വാധീനം പരിമിതമാണ്.
