ഇസ്രായേലിനെ വിമർശിച്ചതിന് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയുടെ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് (UN official) എതിരെ അമേരിക്ക ഉപരോധം (sanctions) ഏർപ്പെടുത്തി.
പാലസ്തീനിലെ മനുഷ്യാവകാശങ്ങൾക്കായുള്ള യുഎൻ പ്രത്യേക റിപ്പോർട്ടർ (UN Special Rapporteur) ഫ്രാൻസെസ്ക അൽബനീസിനെതിരെയാണ് നടപടി.
അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ക്രിമിനൽ കോടതിയുമായി (International Criminal Court - ICC) സഹകരിച്ചു എന്ന കാരണത്താലാണ് ഉപരോധം. ഇത് ഒരു "അപകടകരമായ കീഴ്വഴക്കം" (dangerous precedent) ആണെന്ന് യുഎൻ അപലപിച്ചു.
ഈ ഉപരോധത്തിൽ യാത്രാ വിലക്ക് (travel bans), ആസ്തി മരവിപ്പിക്കൽ (asset freezes) എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.
യുദ്ധത്തിന് ഫണ്ട് നൽകുന്ന കോർപ്പറേറ്റ് സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്കെതിരെ നടപടിയെടുക്കാൻ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു റിപ്പോർട്ട് നൽകിയതാണ് യുഎസ്സിനെ പ്രകോപിപ്പിച്ചത്.
യുഎൻ മനുഷ്യാവകാശ കൗൺസിൽ (UN Human Rights Council) ആണ് മിസ്. അൽബനീസിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് അംഗീകാരം നൽകിയത്. അമേരിക്കയുടെ ഈ നടപടി ആഗോള ബഹുമുഖ ലോക ക്രമത്തെ (multilateral world order) ദുർബലപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
ഇസ്രായേലിനെതിരായ നടപടികളെ ഈ ആഴ്ച നടന്ന BRICS ഉച്ചകോടി അപലപിച്ചിരുന്നു, ഇതിൽ ഇന്ത്യയും പങ്കാളിയായിരുന്നു.
