Key Highlights:
The Asian giant tortoise, Asia's largest tortoise species and classified as critically endangered, has been successfully reintroduced into the wild in Nagaland.
Ten tortoises, raised at the Nagaland Zoological Park, were released into the Zeliang Community Reserve in Peren district, Nagaland.
This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Nagaland Forest Department and the India Turtle Conservation Programme.
To aid in their acclimatization, the tortoises were initially placed in a "soft-release enclosure."
