Successful Test-firing of Agni-5 Ballistic Missile: A Boost to India's Strategic Deterrence

Key Highlights from the News
India's intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) Agni-5 was successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha.
This test, overseen by the Strategic Forces Command, confirmed all of the missile's operational and technical capabilities.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) indigenously developed this missile.
With a range of over 5,000 kilometers, Agni-5 is considered India's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). It was built to meet the country's long-term security needs.
In March 2024, India also successfully tested Agni-5 equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, capable of striking multiple targets simultaneously.
