Key Highlights from the News
The women’s reservation law, known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, will provide women with their rightful place in governance, said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Under this law, 33% reservation (one-third) for women will be ensured in Lok Sabha and State legislatures.
Within this reservation, there will also be a special sub-reservation for women from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The fact that this was the first bill passed in the new Parliament building increases its historical significance.
These matters were discussed at the first national conference of parliamentary and legislative committees for women's empowerment.
