Key Highlights from the News
25 years after joining NATO, Poland is joining the Alliance's fuel pipeline network (NATO Pipeline System - NPS) for the first time.
Built during the Cold War, this pipeline network is a critical military logistics system for delivering essential fuel (for tanks and aircraft) to soldiers during wartime.
This significant move comes against the backdrop of increasing tensions on Poland's eastern border with Russia and Belarus.
Poland had not been a member of this network until now because, during the Cold War, it was part of the Soviet Union-led Warsaw Pact.
As part of the project, a new pipeline will be built from Germany to the Bydgoszcz military base in Poland.
This move will significantly enhance NATO's military readiness and defensive capabilities on its eastern flank.
