  • Apart from elected members, the Rajya Sabha also includes nominated members.

  • Article 80 of the Indian Constitution allows the President to nominate members to the Rajya Sabha.

  • The total number of nominated members should not exceed 12.

  • The Election Commission has granted Sachin Tendulkar the status of a "national icon" and mandated his engagement for the next three years to raise awareness about the importance of increased voter participation in the electoral process.

  • While the intention behind this move is commendable, it ironically brings back memories of Sachin Tendulkar's lackluster period in the Rajya Sabha.

  • This incident took place during a session of the Upper House, which had relatively few attendees.

  • Amid routine announcements, Deputy Chairman P.J Kurien sought the House's permission for Tendulkar's leave.

  • Parliament rules dictate that members' leave applications are read aloud and the House decides on granting permission.

  • it sheds light on the popular perception of Tendulkar's parliamentary involvement

  • 2014 Lok Sabha had notable actors: Hema Malini, Kirron Kher, Paresh Rawal, Moon Moon Sen, Innocent.

  • In fact, the active participation of celebrity parliamentarians is rare

  • Jaya Bachchan, representing the film industry in the Rajya Sabha, is active and engaged.

  • Jaya Bachchan participates in debates and distributes treats to fellow members.

  • The presence of celebrities in parliament often garners attention and generates a mix of expectations and skepticism.

  • While some individuals actively engage in parliamentary affairs and contribute meaningfully to legislative discussions, others may struggle to balance their public personas with their responsibilities as lawmakers
