India – Qatar Relation 

  • India and Qatar enjoy close and friendly relation.

  • Its underpinned by strong economic, commercial, and cultural ties. 

  • India is a major trade and investment partner of Qatar, and the Indian community is the largest expatriate group in Qatar.

  • In 2023, India and Qatar celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of full diplomatic relations. 

  • Over the past five decades, the bilateral relationship has grown significantly, marked by regular high-level visits and exchanges.

Economic relations

  • India-Qatar bilateral trade in 2021-22 was US$ 15.03 billion. 

  • India's exports during 2021-22 was US$ 1.83 billion and India's imports was US$ 13.19 billion. 

  • In 2021, India was among the top four largest export destinations for Qatar and is also among the top three sources of Qatar's imports.

Economic relations

  • India's main exports to Qatar include rice, vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products, textiles, garments, machinery, and equipment. 

  • Qatar's main exports to India include liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), petrochemicals, and aluminium.

  • 48% of India’s global LNG imports is from qatar. 

  • India also imports ethylene, propylene, ammonia, urea, and polyethylene from Qatar.

  • India and Qatar have also signed a number of agreements to promote investment and cooperation in various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, trade, and tourism.

  • These include signing a number of agreements with the Qatari government, such as an agreement on labor protection and an agreement on social security.

  • They have also played a key role in the development of Qatar's healthcare and education sectors.
