PLFS defines unemployment rate as the percentage of unemployed persons in the labour force in current weekly status (CWS) — the number of persons either employed or unemployed on an average in a week.
The urban unemployment rate for people aged 15+ was 6.4% from October to December 2024.
Men's unemployment rate was 5.8%, while women's was higher at 8.1%.
This is similar to the unemployment rate of 6.5% during the same period in 2023.
Himachal Pradesh had the highest unemployment rate at 10.4%, with the highest female unemployment at 24%.
Gujarat had the lowest unemployment rate at 3%, while Delhi had the lowest female unemployment at 1.3%.
The Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) was 39.6%, slightly higher than 39.2% in the same period last year.
Female LFPR increased by 0.1% to 20% but decreased from the last quarter's 20.3%.
Bihar had the lowest LFPR at 30.7% for all people and 9.9% for women.
The Worker Population Ratio (WPR) in urban areas rose from 46.6% to 47.2% from 2023 to 2024.
