A six-year-old girl died of rabies in Kozhikode, Kerala, despite receiving the anti-rabies vaccine.
Child was treated and vaccinated at the Government Medical College Hospital and later discharged.
She developed a fever about a month later and tested positive for rabies; she died after six days in the ICU.
Doctors suggested the head wound may have allowed the virus to reach her brain quickly, making the vaccine less effective.
The incident has raised public concern in Kerala, which has already seen 12 rabies deaths in 2025.
Experts are urging urgent action to control the stray dog population.
